Balm of Gilead made with with wildcrafted cottonwood buds, 100% pure natural beeswax, and extra virgin olive oil. I was inspired by an early 1800s New England folk recipe to make this ointment. Also known as cottonwood balm, poplar salve, gilly bud ointment. 1 oz. tin (30 ml).
Historically, poplar has been known to help minor cuts and burns, dry skin, mild aches and pains, minor sun and wild burn.*
Populus (like the species I use in this salve) was an ingredient in ancient flying ointments. In lore, Populus is used for protection and communication with the dead. Especially powerful around liminal times like Samhain.
I make these in small batches. Herbal salves are ointments that are applied topically to the skin. To take advantage of salve, apply generously. These are natural, salve color may differ slightly. Herbal salves work differently for everyone. Natural skincare that moisturizes and softens the skin and leaves it feeling soothed.
If you are allergic to aspirin use cottonwood cautiously.
Balm of Gilead is also called poplar bud salve, gilly bud salve, and historically, Unguentum populi.
Don't use oil based preparations on wet open cuts or if allergic to any of these ingredients.
I've taken multiple herbal apprenticeships and many courses, classes, and workshops in or around herbalism. The ointments I sell are made from techniques I've learned through years of education and use.
Always do a test patch before widespread use.
